Vancouver City Councilmember and Community Leader Ty Stober Announces Re-election Campaign for Vancouver City Council, Position 5

Vancouver — City Council Member and longtime community leader, Ty Stober, will run for re-election to Vancouver City Council, Position 5. ​He is already endorsed by the International Association of Firefighters Local 452 Vancouver, Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, and many members of the community for his 2019 bid.

Stober’s Council assignments include the boards of Council for the Homeless, C-TRAN, and Safe Communities Task Force as well as other Council assignments. He also serves as a member of the Daybreak Youth Services Governing Board, a lunch buddy at Fruit Valley Elementary School, and on the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Policy Advisory Committee.

Stober is excited about strategic investments made to connect our businesses, residents and local government during his first term. Fourth Plain Forward, the Waterfront Redevelopment, and commissioning the Heights subarea plan will have long-term benefits to the local economy. Improving the condition of roads and public right-of-ways, re-greening of parks, and bolstering vital public safety resources strengthen the City’s quality of life. Most personally rewarding to Stober is the state and national recognition Vancouver has received for its innovation and leadership in affordable housing.

As a Councilmember, Stober’s commitment is to be thoughtful and dedicated when it comes to the work of the city. “The issues facing Vancouver are nuanced and complex,” he says, “and in my decision-making I try hard to hear and represent the voices in our community that feel left out and left behind.”

“My time on Council has been rewarding,” states Stober, “We have launched many projects and initiatives to strengthen our community, and I want to see them come to fruition. I am eager to continue building economic and social opportunity that connects our youth, our aging population, and our families to a growing, vibrant city.”

In his second term, Stober will focus on workforce housing solutions, continued economic growth, and improvements in transportation. He sees all of these as important parts of Vancouver’s developmental trajectory.

A metro area native, Stober’s first job out of college was in East Vancouver, prompting his move to the community twenty-four years ago. He is a graduate of Leadership Clark County, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Puget Sound in

Tacoma, Washington, and a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to his time on Council, Stober led a program that influenced consumer electronics retailers to source and sell the most energy efficient televisions available. Over the course of the initiative, the average television saw a 55% decrease in energy consumption, enough to power 31,000 Northwest homes.

“The strategies used to transform the US television market can also strengthen Vancouver’s economy and build strong employment opportunities. The high tech economy is spurring innovation and creating new opportunities,” said Stober, “let’s take full advantage of this to the benefit of our residents.”

Ty’s sense of dedication to community and public service are reflected in his 2019 campaign theme, “Connecting Vancouver, Together.”
